Just after graduating high school, four friends went on a road trip across the United States. While driving through the Arizona desert, they noticed what they thought was a meteor crash to earth in the horizon. Choosing to investigate, they discovered an alien of unbelievable cosmic power dying in its spaceship. Reaching out to them, the alien bestowed each of the four teenagers with powers pertaining to different universal forces. It also charged them with protecting Earth from cosmic threats that were sure to come. Finally, the alien granted them its ship - a shape changing device with an artificial intelligence that would help them fulfill their role as Earth's protectors.
The friends took the ship with them to the apartment they would share while attending Campaign City University the following year. It promptly fused with the building, transforming it into a camoflaged, high tech headquarters. Thus established, they began their first year in collge, taking classes by day and serving the city by night as its newest super-powered defenders - The Amazing Friends.
